Mwayi Kumwenda plays goal shooter for Malawi, a country whose national netball side, the Queens, has spent years ranked among the best in the world — comfortably the most successful Malawian national team in any sport.
She moved to New Zealand and then to Australia, where she played for the Melbourne Vixens in Suncorp Super Netball, the strongest league in the game, and was repeatedly among its leading and most accurate shooters. A ruptured knee ligament in 2018 cost her the best part of two seasons and she came back from it.
For Malawi she has been the fixed point of the attacking third across World Cups and Commonwealth Games, and she is among the handful of Malawian athletes with a genuine international profile.
