In her first season in the United States she scored more goals than anyone had managed in a National Women's Soccer League season and was voted the league's most valuable player. With her sister she took Malawi to a continental final.
Temwa Chawinga followed her older sister Tabitha out of Rumphi and into professional football, playing in China before signing for the Kansas City Current.
In her debut National Women's Soccer League season in 2024 she scored twenty goals, a single-season record for the league, won the Golden Boot and was named Most Valuable Player — the first Malawian to win a major award in American professional sport.
In August 2026 she and Tabitha took Malawi to the final of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations at the country's first appearance in the tournament, sharing the goals in a 3–1 semi-final win over Algeria before losing the final to Cameroon.
